35th District Reps. Travis Couture and Dan Griffey, both Republicans from Allyn, and state Sen. Drew MacEwen, R-Shelton, had a virtual town hall Feb. 18 to give an update on the current legislative session and take questions.
MacEwen said one of his priorities is “making sure that the ability for economic development occurs in the 35th.”
Senate Bill 5874, sponsored by MacEwen, passed with bipartisan support and is currently being heard in the House. The bill specifically targets the “incomplete report penalties” for minor reporting errors. It proposes allowing the Employment Security Department commissioner to waive penalties for minor, non-substantive administrative errors.
“We look forward to getting that passed into law. That’s taken a lot of money out of the hands of small businesses unnecessarily,” he said.
