Your Sheriff should answer to you, the voters—not to a group of unelected bureaucrats or state-level appointees. When we strip away that independence, we strip away your voice in how your community is policed. The will of the voters should stand. If the people don’t like the job their sheriff is doing, they have the right to recall them or not return them at the next election. Our state Constitution establishes the criteria for the election of sheriffs. I stand with the people and with our Constitution. The bill that passed the Senate is UNACCEPTABLE.
